|
|
Hi can anyone help me....
I recently purchased a copy of this game from Play in the UK as I was a fan of the X Com series and it looks really good. I have tried to install the patches for the game but I am having trouble installing the 2nd patch - which is from this websites downloads section....
I get this message when I am about 24% of the way through the ZIP process....
7 Zip Internal Error Code 106
I have tried to install the EU patch (patch 1) from the Publishers website - not this website and it installs fine but I cannot install the 2nd patch which was released some months after the first.
How can I install the 2nd patch????
Help!

Perhaps a corrupt patch install file?
Did you try clearing your browser cache (important) and re-downloading the patch?

I just recently bought UFO ET on gamers gate and am having quite the trouble installing the second patch. The first patch installs with no trouble and the second gets about a quarter of the way done and gives me a 7 Zip: Internal Error, code 106.
I've looked around quite a bit and tried to email to the admins here and....well I've had no luck at all.
This game has much potential to me. I've enjoyed the vanilla version significantly but would obviously love to try the improved modded version.
Please respond with any advice or ideas on how to fix my little dilemma.

Did you try the steps above to make sure you got the full file correctly? Does the filesize match what it should be? If you know how to get the CRC or MD5 checksums of a file, I can give you the values that they should equal to make sure your file isn't corrupt. You could also try looking for a mirror and getting the file from there, such as http://www.ufo-scene.com/download.php?view.94.
If that works, and you want to check out the modding, I recommend trying BMan's mod v4.07.

By the steps above I assume you mean those subjects that were stickied? I read through and tried all information I could find and of course didn't resolve anything.
I downloaded it through Gamers Gate if that helps any and I've tried the patches from their website and from this and other sites. Yeah I'm pretty much out of ideas.
I'm not familiar with check sums honestly, but as I've tried several different downloaded patches I don't think corruption is the problem.
Could there just be a weird compatibility issue?

By "the steps above" I meant my earlier post in the same thread.
What you can try doing is extracting the patch files manually. The patch "installer" is just a self-extracting 7-zip file, so if you have WinRAR or 7-zip installed, you can rightclick the exe file (ufo_et_patch2_EN.exe?) and open it with either of those programs to extract the files manually into your UFO:ET directory, overwriting the existing files.
If you don't have either program installed, you can grab 7-zip over at http://www.7-zip.org/download.html. It's free, and a good program.
If you really don't want to install it, or it's still not working when you open the exe inside of 7-zip/WinRAR, I can extract and upload the files in a regular .zip file.

Well my computer ended up having some serious problems eventually and so I won't be playing on it.
I installed the game on an older computer that had xp installed and didn't have a single problem. Thanks for the help.
